I was perusing Facebook this morning looking for new quizzes that would tell me what spirit animal I am or what Disney character I resemble when I stumbled across a tumblr account called, Women Against Feminism. Have you heard of this nonsense?
Intrigued I clicked on it and found much to my dismay yet another reason why I should completely lose faith in all of humanity. It’s a blog composed of females posting pictures and holding signs saying why they don’t need “feminism”. Some quotes include, “I don’t need feminism because I’m not a victim” or ” I don’t need feminism because men are not villains”.
Apparently, young women of America think feminism is a “Man-Hating”, violent and slut-filled movement. I almost threw up from the pure ignorance. Every five minutes a new picture goes up…that’s how many people are actually jumping on board with this crap.
Holy mother of gosh, what is happening? SMH.
Something about this whole thing just rattled my woman cage. Probably because it’s a complete slap in the face to the entire population of women, worldwide. And because this movement is gaining so much traction by people who clearly are misinformed by what “Feminism” actually means.
I can’t believe that these young women, who by the way are reaping the benefits from feminist movements, have the gall to promote all the reasons why feminism is no longer a needed “ideology”. These women, who are the future of our country, are posting misrepresented information all while women in other countries are still fighting for the right to just read and write…but who cares about people in other countries? Seriously, as long as you aren’t suffering from inequality then that’s all that matters.
Can’t even handle it right now.
I’m clearly disappointed in today’s youth (that makes me sound oldish) but as I look through all these #WomenAgainstFeminism posters, I find that majority are teenagers who have no idea what they are talking about. I can only hope that their thoughts on this will change but I would like to give them some harsh words of advice:
You are an embarrassment to your mothers, your peers, your aunts, grandmothers, sisters and women worldwide. Instead of writing on a piece of paper and snapping a selfie, take the time to research what feminism means, what it has done and what it still needs to do. Don’t be brainwashed by something you know nothing about, feminist fought so you have the right to educate yourself before making a decision.
In pure, That Girl Ryan fashion, I’ve decided to publicly respond to a select few of these anti-feminist posters by creating my own posters…they are meant to be funny not insulting…but they are a little insulting…

Stooping to name calling and hateful talk isn’t really the answer. If these people are the “idiots” you say they are, using speech like you’ve used here doesn’t elevate your point of view above theirs. Feminism gets a bad rap, but that’s because we associate it with the penis hating, extremely loud fringe of the movement. The radical members of every ideology are the loudest ones and give the movement a bad name. Look at Islam/Al-Qaeda or Republicans/Tea Party and you’ll see what I mean. The tumblr page you’re spearing is pushing back against the intolerant, radical feminists that the movement is associated with. If you look closely, what these girls are calling for is equality, love, and respect. That’s feminism. With issues like these, throwing barbs across the internet at people with whom you’ve never spoken isn’t solving anything, it’s making things worse.
I think you might have missed the point of this post…I’m simply calling out the people who do not have any idea what the term feminism means. If you look at the posters in the pictures you can see how inaccurate their idea of feminism is. I’m not stooping to any level but that of pure honesty from one women to another. Again if u look at what’s written on the posters you will understand why I am fired up. Before you get behind something, learn about it. Put it to you this way. If one of those girls came upon this post how would they react? Would they say, “Oh wow, I never really thought of it that way.” Or would they just write you off as some name calling “idiot” who is part of the movement they’re at odds with.
When you take a side of an argument it’s always in your best interest to hear and understand the opposing side. Clearly these girls have not done that as they think a small fraction of this movement defines the entire movement. Nor do they care, clearly. I don’t think they are serious about the stance they are taking but more concerned with jumping on a band wagon and posting a picture of themselves. Nothing I would post would affect them anyway, even my “name calling” as you say here. I can appreciate opposing arguments with valid reasoning, I can’t appreciate misinformed teenagers posting pictures online Bc it’s a trending hashtag to get behind. As I mentioned here, this was meant to be entertaining for those who understand what feminism means, not a way to mock fun at mislead girls. However people are sensitive and that’s the risk you take.
Great post! We seem to be faced with a generation of young people who are ready to jump onboard any popular cause without even trying to understand what it really means. Those kids are against the stereotype of feminism, not real feminism.
I especially love the idiot who says we need more men like Christian Grey: a fictional chasracter who wants to control every aspect of a woman’s life — what she wears, who she sees, where she goes, how she dresses, even what she eats. That dumb kid in the picture thinks we need more men who are posssessive control freaks.
